Patrick O'Grady
July 17, 1932 - February 14, 2022
Resident of Sonoma, Patrick Joseph O'Grady passed away on Monday, February 14,
2022. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Patrick was 89 years old. He is
survived by his twin daughters, Eileen O'Grady (Bart Hickenbottom) and Maureen
O'Grady Heatley and his eight grandchildren, Ainsley, Kiera and Owen
Hickenbottom and Fionnuala, Declan, Caoilinn, Ronan and Caddell Heatley. He is
also survived by his sister Joan Holmes and brother Jim O'Grady and many nieces
and nephews. Patrick was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Catherine.
Although born in New York City, Patrick was raised on a farm in Arranagh,
Monegea, County Limerick, Ireland, where one of his passions was being a jockey.
At 22 years of age, Patrick returned to the United States where he started his
30-year career with Trans World Airlines. He also briefly served in the U.S.
Army in California, where he met his wife over six decades ago at an Irish dance
in San Francisco on St. Patrick's Day. After living in San Francisco for 30
years, Patrick and Catherine retired to Sonoma in 1990, where they were active
members of St. Leo the Great Parish and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Patrick
enjoyed gardening and upholstering and was an avid fan of the San Francisco
Giants. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Patrick's life on
Friday, February 25th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Church, 601 W. Agua
Caliente Road, Sonoma, California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Leo's.
