Rene J. Champagne, age 84, of Cupertino, passed away peacefully surrounded by close family and friends at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara on Friday, December 15th, 2017. Born in Kerkom, Belgium on February 16, 1933, Rene, son of Antoine Champagne & Marie-Guilluimine nee Poelmans, moved to Canada in 1955. He became a US citizen in 1964. Known as “Champ” to friends, he was an avid aviation & mechanical engineering enthusiast. Rene worked for TWA for over 34 years, moving to California with the company in 1965. He married Lilli on June 21, 1967 in San Francisco. Rene will be sadly missed by his nurturing wife Lilli, his two loving daughters — Christina & Theresa, his grandchildren who knew him as Bonpa — Tiegan & Kaj, his son-in-laws — James & Sergio, and in Belgium his brothers — Jacques and Georges as well as his niece, Ingrid. In lieu of flowers, please consider gifts to the Humane Society as Champ had a special love for animals in need. Special thanks to the Kaiser Hospital & Hospice teams for the caring support.
